About "The House"
History
I purchased the house in 2004, the second call I received was from the UNH Alpine Ski Coach who asked me if I would be willing to continue allowing the team to use the house as their training base in January as the previous owner a UNH Alumni had for many years. I not only bought a house but a college skiing tradition which required that I keep the name of the house: "The Beast" as it is known by the hundreds of ski racers that fondly remember their time there. The Beast always makes an impression, I am grateful to carry on the tradition as the current steward.
The Beast was built in stages starting in the mid 70's, bought by an Italian Eye Doctor with 12 children. As the family grew so did the house, the oldest part is North Wing which orginally looked like the ski chalet up the driveway the house shares on the left, then it grew South over the 2 car garage. When the children grew up and the reason for the house changed, the doctor donated the house to Tufts and the house fell into disrepair for many years. The family I purchased it from saved it from destruction and invested countless effort and capital to rebuild the deck and roofs which had caved in. I was looking for a 3 bedroom house with a 2 car garage when I found The Beast, my realtor convinced me that for a similar price I could have 12 bedrooms and a 2 car garage. After several years of the house remaining empty most of the year, which I felt was selfish I decided to share The Beast it is very satisfying to hear the stories from the grateful guests who enjoyed their stay and often return. Is it your turn to experience The Beast?
